Slow Reads Week – Weekly Wrap Up

Hello readers! I hope you’re all well, safe and healthy in a world that is going towards war and the reason for it is beyond me. I can’t think of better title than this as I managed to pick back-to-back slow books. It took me a whole week to finish a book. I started another in weekends (and still reading) thinking it will be fun but it also turned out a little slow and serious. Not that they are bad, in fact, turned out amazing but back to back slow books make me feel impatient.

There isn’t much update. Week was same in life. We had to cancel zoo trip on Sunday and instead we decided to go tomorrow as it’s religious holiday. For a change, Instagram is back to growing as I spent more time there last week. I also have a rough plan of what and how I want to post on Instagram so I hope that works.

Last Week I Read

The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page

This is is wonderful women’s fiction that revolves around Janice the house cleaner and stories she collects of people she works for. The book has a slow start but now after finishing the book I feel it was good I was eased in story slowly and gradually. It was interesting to read each stories Janice collected, to know how they end, and most of all what is Janice’s story. You can say this is kind of collection of short stories but it is told by a person observing it and giving it a shape and making the short collection into a novel. And most surprising and amazing is author’s note saying all these stories, both historical and real in book, are based on true stories. This turned out a gem, a book I would like to reread in future.

Currently Reading

The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley, Austin Siegemund-Broka

I’m almost halfway through this book. I thought this will be fun but it’s too serious for romance. Writing is amazing but honestly, I’m frustrated by characters’ frustration and fight with each other. There is flashback, part where it is said what happened between them and why they hate each other but I still feel it isn’t enough, I still don’t get clear picture of what happened, what made Katherine go for retirement from writing, what was said that affected her mental health and made her insecure. I don’t have an opinion for Nathan but I know Katherine is either weak or stupid for staying with Chris even though she know he is manipulative and only is with her for her money. I know she wants comfort but I don’t see why there isn’t anyone else she can lean on! I just hope this gets better or I might have an unpopular opinion for this.

Next I’ll Read

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

I need something fast paced and something I know I will love and I can’t think of any books better than this. I’m reading this with Toni and we are planning to start this tomorrow.

Thank you for reading! Let’s chat…

Have you read any of these books or added to TBR?
What are you planning to read this week?

QOTW  Do you keep a journal? if so how do you make it look clean?
No matter what I do my diary either physical or digital looks so messy! And I don’t like it. 😐
