Guest Post: About Author and her work

Hello gorgeous readers, and thank you for taking the time to get to know me and my work.

Originally from South Africa, I now reside in the northern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

I write under the pen name MC D’Alton and Michelle Dalton. Dalton being my great grandfather’s last name.

I’ve been in love with storytelling from a very young age thanks to my beautiful Gogo (Goh-goh, great grandmother). I spent all of my childhood holidays in her company listening to her endless tales about her antics in 1900’s Natal Midlands.

I write across multiple genres, but always weave romance in , either as part of the main plot, or as a very prominent element.

I love the world of make believe, yummy dudes, and strong heroines. All my stories carry a touch of truth about current situations, especially those occurring in my country of birth, South Africa.

My first book (award winning bestseller – Epona) takes place in Scotland but has a lot of South Africa in it. My heroine, Sadie Munro, is a young South African who survived a brutal farm attack. When the story moves to Scotland I tried to create as much authenticity as possible. So I spent three months teaching myself Gaelic and researching the dialect spoken up in the Highlands. I’ve been to Scotland twice in my life and have always loved the magic that touches ones soul when exploring this ancient land.

Simple Truths and Forget Me not (both nominated 2019 ARRA romantic series) bring to light many social issues, such human trafficking, the violence in my country of birth and racism, as well as giving the reader kick ass romance and a HEA.

Simple Truths grasps the essence of being South African and is in part based on people who have crossed my path. Forget Me Not is more of an ode to the ancient legend, but has a better ending.

I have put stories on paper since I can remember. I day dream a lot and have given my husband numerous heart attacks when jumping out of bed in the dead of night to jot down a scene or idea which came to me.

I have a really fantastic editor and indie publisher who support me, especially since I was never any good at the technical part of writing. You see, I am dyslexic and almost shunned writing forever when my year four teacher put me in front of the class and ridiculed me for writing my B’s backward. Thankfully I inherited my mother’s stubborn gene’s and never gave up.

I started taking my writing seriously about seven years ago. I had to stop nursing due to a serious injury and so fell back onto my second love, which is now my first love – bringing stories to life.

Currently I am writing book two of the Highlands Series (Follows Epona – Vala). In between real world work (yes, I’ve returned to nursing)and raising triplet teenage boys, I am editing book two in The Iron Universe (with Melanie Page) and working on the third, in this series.

Writing is more than a passion for me. I love the feel of pen on paper as my world, and its inhabitants come to life.  The personalities that blossom as my fingers tap away on the keyboard, and the stories that unfold as I immerse myself into a realm all my making.

Okay, and I love the fact that others will read it and lose themselves in it too.

So there you go, this is me. I sincerely hope you enjoy the reads.

Regards,

Michelle D.
