Synopsis

It takes nothing less than a fateful natural disaster to throw two opposites together in a ground-shakingly charming short story by the New York Times bestselling author of Drunk on Love.

This Valentine’s Day, Daisy Murray has her heart set on binge-watching rom-coms. Instead, an earthquake traps her inside a bakery with its impossibly rude and insufferably handsome owner and head baker. They already have a history: she’s always smiled, he’s always scowled. Where better to finally get to know each other than amid the disaster? Then again, they have no choice. Besides, it could have its sweet, undeniable, and unpredictable perks.

Jasmine Guillory’s Drop, Cover, and Hold On is part of The Improbable Meet-Cute, irresistibly romantic stories about finding love when and where you least expect it. They can be read or listened to in one sitting. Let’s make a date of it.

Review

On Valentine’s Day, Daisy decides to treat herself with coffee, a spa day, a series of romantic comedy movies… anything but definitely is not visiting her favorite bakery ‘Cook’s Bakeshop’ as the owner of the bakery, Harry, has been persistently rude to her.

However, temptation proves too strong as she passes by the bakery. And when she enters the bakery suddenly a massive earthquake hits, forcing her to seek shelter with Harris who she thinks hates her. But trapped inside, she discovers different side of him.

I liked their honest conversation with each other about their past interactions and misunderstandings. Unlike previous books in the series there has been a little spice in this. I enjoyed reading the sizzling chemistry between Daisy and Harris in their short duration of trapped situation.

What I didn’t like is the cliched behavior of Harris who didn’t know how to show his real emotion that created misunderstanding.

Overall, Drop, Cover, and Hold On is enjoyable, interesting, and well written romance, all in just 40 pages.

Every person she kisses finds their true love, and it’s never her—until now, in this funny and magically romantic short story by the New York Times bestselling author of The Dead Romantics.

Audrey Love is cursed to be the person before you find your soulmate, the girl you dump for your true love. So when her best friend disappears hours before his Valentine’s Day wedding, Audrey fears that she did the unthinkable and kissed him at last night’s bachelor party. With help from the best man, she retraces her steps to find the missing groom and, with any luck, a true love of her own.

Review

I absolutely adore the epigraph, ‘To everyone who grew up on rom-coms’.

Audrey comes from family of women blessed with luck in almost every aspect of life except in love. She thinks she has curse, if she kisses someone it leads the recipient to their soulmate the following day, and she had too many experience as proof. She shares this to her best friend Rhett when she met him 10 years ago in college who is now getting married marrying the rich and famous actress Carmilla on Valentine’s Day.

Rhett asked Audrey to be his best man and Audrey is genuinely happy for Rhett but downside is Carmilla’s best friend and maid of honor, Theo Luck, whom she doesn’t like because of what happened last time they met.

Wedding day takes an unexpected turn when Rhett mysteriously disappears making Audrey and Theo work together to find him but it also strikes Audrey’s worst fear as she doesn’t remember what happened a day before wedding that made Rhett disappear.

Dual timeline format- ‘The Wedding day’ and ‘Night Before Wedding’ -added a suspense to story making readers wonder what happened between Rhett and Audrey and what provoked Rhett to disappear. This is story of finding love when you least expect it and there is nothing like unlucky at love.

I loved all characters even Rhett and Carmilla. Theo’s description “Theodore Luck is like a cardboard cutout of a man—all sharp edges and paper-thin emotions. If beige were a person, he’d be the premier paint color.” was witty. But I don’t think he was beige when came to Audrey. He made it pretty clear from the beginning he didn’t believe in her superstition about kiss and I loved how he made Audrey realise that in the end.

It was great to read about Rhett’s anxiety and his reluctance about wedding but not about Carmilla being his love of life. Carmilla was lovely sunshine girl and I loved her even more for what she did at the end. Rhett and Audrey’s conversation about wedding at the end was raw. It was amazing how how Theo and Audrey connected through their love for their best friends.

I enjoyed the end. I couldn’t be more happy knowing how wrong Audrey was about her family curse or was it? In a way her curse turned out right too but this time Audrey wasn’t someone “Before”.

Overall, With Any Luck is delightful, entertaining, and heartwarming second chance romance with amazing premises.

Synopsis

Valentine’s Day becomes a Roman holiday for a princess in disguise in a dizzyingly romantic short story about making wishes come true by the USA Today bestselling author of The Chemistry of Love.

Princess Ilaria has had it up to her tiara with the paparazzi, her own wild reputation, and the public eye. Trading places with her assistant, Ilaria wants just one blissfully ordinary weekend. Then a handsome photographer with a sexy Scottish burr offers to be her guide. Sparks fly, but how long can they last? Ilaria’s secret has to come out—and it could ruin a perfectly serendipitous romance.

Review

Royal Valentine follows Princess Ilaria, previously mentioned as a guest on the invite list for Rhett and Carmilla’s wedding. However, instead of attending, she finds herself in Rome for a fundraising event.

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Ilaria was supposed to return back to her home but impulsively decides to swap roles with her PR to have weekend in her favorite city as a normal person without paparazzi.

Her adventurous of touring Rome anonymously takes an unexpected turn when she accidently drugs herself into unconsciousness, leading to a chance encounter with Callum Stewart, a charming Scottish photographer who becomes her unexpected savior and tour guide.

Attraction between Illaria and Callum is instant but they really connects through their mutual love for Rome and their passion for their respective professions. However, just when their feelings are about to turns deep they discover each other’s identity that derail any chance of future.

Ilaria’s lovely and delightful character shines through story despite the clichéd situation of getting into trouble being saved by handsome man. I enjoyed reading little facts of famous Rome locations through her.

I didn’t like Callum’s reaction to the revelation of their true identities but his his eventual redemption and speech was heartfelt. What I truly enjoyed in this story is theme and layers of struggle of being royal and pressure that comes with title, paparazzi scrutiny, fulfilling responsibilities, and taking chance for happiness.

Overall, Royal Valentine is lovely, heartwarming royalty romance with clichéd plot but amazing themes and layers.
