The Frightened Little Flower Bud starts with sprouting of seed in beautiful garden and turning to a little flower bud. But little flower bud is afraid to open its petals as it has heard the stories on wind about scorching sun, heavy spoiling rain, blowing wind, and bees sting. In a fear of all these things it is missing the joy of what it will be like blooming.

Story tells about the fears that develops in children and how overwhelming it can be through this Frightened Little Flower Bud.

Book Description: To add to the fun and develop observational skills there’s a ‘Did You See’ activity page at the back with objects from the book that children may not have noticed whilst reading it. There are also some simple questions that can be asked of children, encouraging them to think about what they’ve read. The skill level required is ‘easy’.

Author’s Note: This version uses ‘British spelling’. There is an American version – The Fearful Little Flower Bud.

Loved the cover that is telling the story itself with fears of flower bud. I like how Tragopogon plant was drawn in this story and the expression put on it was so cute especially when it was poking its head out to look at the world. Illustrations were colorful and beautiful with all little details. Story was written in simple words that children can understand.

Story gave message about fears we develop on just assuming things or based on other’s words and experiences without even experiencing ourselves which leads us away from joy, happiness and learning process. It is very important to teach children to put aside fears, not to hold on emotions and to open up, experience world at early age. The story told this simple message in very beautiful way.

If you have read Renee Paule’s books you might know she gives something to think over in her books and encourage us to find answers ourselves. In this story also she gave questions, at the end, for both children and parents/teachers to discuss about fears of Little Flower Bud which can serve as medium for children to open up and tell about their fears as well. As said in the book description there was an activity page for children that can help to develop observational skill.

Overall, this was very nice and meaningful story that children would love to read. I recommend for to all parents and teachers.
