Rain is paranormal romance, first book of ‘A Stranger in the Woods’ series.
Blurb (in my words)-
19-yr-old Rose is living in a small town that is plagued by illness. Death is common in every house. It has not spared Rose’s house too. It has taken her father and mother is fighting. She has to take care of her younger siblings. Gunner, her best friend is only supporter and comfort for her. A stranger has an eye on this little family without their knowledge. 20th birthday changes her whole life. Rose closes the distance with her best friend. She meets this stranger in woods, and she finds her other part of soul in him. No one known about this stranger, no one believes Rose anymore, she doesn’t know how to find him. This Stranger is a magical being. His name is Ryder.
Why Ryder came in Rose’s life? What happens when she learns the truth about Ryder? What will happen of her relationship with Gunner?
My view:
Fate is terrorizing stories and characters these days. Sigh!
Rain is about love, friendship, and survival. About the sacrifices needed to make to fulfill the bigger purpose, fighting the evil and saving people, about finding your true self. This Story is about Rose, Ryder, Gunner, Demons, Elves and prophecy.
“Two bloods of one will bring down the shadows, to cast, no more.”
My favorite line from the book:
“If you’re wondering if there’s more to love, you’re not in the kind of love that will fill you with passion and wonder, especially through hard times.”
Characters– All characters in this books has touched my heart, they were so good. Rose– wise, smart, adapting person. I loved how she handled everything. Gunner– Initially, I didn’t like him. This what happens when it’s love triangle, I by default start disliking third person. But as story progressed, this third person has unexpectedly changed my mind. I can’t believe I like him at the end. This was surprise I was not expecting. Ryder– Imagine braided, dark skin, oh and also shirtless, Legolas of LOTR. That’s Ryder here. What do I say about this character!! I just wish he was real not just fictional character.
What I liked? First of all story was good, Elves and demons made it different, written so well and exactly India’s style. Alternate POV of Rose and Ryder helped lot in understanding their feelings and their world. First few chapters were intriguing, made me curious to know more about Ryder, made me hungry for the story. I was eagerly waiting for the moment when Rose meets Ryder. And when it came, it was best part of the book, I was holding my breath, worried, tensed and excited at the same time, the chapters after this meeting were heart-wrenching. Love triangle made this book even more interesting. I was like,,, Poor Ryder! Poor Gunner! Poor Ryder! Poor Gunner! Poor Ryder! Poor Gunner!… 😀 And then it made me think no this is not usual love triangle. Totally unpredictable and different.
Loved all the action scenes. Amazing! Thanks god I didn’t have knife in the hand or I would have cut something. 😉 Myth and legend in the book was different and good. I was much impressed by Ryder’s village, their life-style, their nature and thoughts. You just wish the more of this kind of people exist in the world for real. Environmentalist will definitely love this bunch. Love scenes in the book were so romantic and not so dirty. Lingo lessons, Ryder’s brothers, his meeting with Rose’s mother were hilarious. I loved Final Four. 😀
There is always a good reason in India’s books for title. And finally got the answer by the end of the book. It was really nice. Laughter, pain, love, suffering, possessiveness, loss, anger.. Every feelings were there in the book. This is what I call emotional roller coaster. I know I’m hopeless fantasy lover but this book I loved the most among all books by India I read till now.
Antagonist was mysterious, I guess the next book of the series will unravel this mysterious villain. In this fantasy story one thing was actually real, at first I thought it was just filler but after reading author’s note, I felt like wow! That’s actually exist! India never cease to amaze me. 🙂
End- It was nothing like expected. It was open ended. I’m curious to see what will happen in the next book, River. It is going to release this year.
Who should read it? You want some elfish romance? This book is for you.
