Books and Shows I Enjoyed in December 2024

Hello Readers! I hope you’re doing well and had a wonderful holiday season. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and prosperous 2025! In this post, I’m sharing my monthly highlights, along with the Books and Shows I Enjoyed in December.

Books and Shows I Enjoyed in December

December Highlights

December was a mix of highs and lows in reading, life, and my child’s progress at school. We started the month with a wonderful trip to Dubai, which was truly enjoyable. The first half of the month was spent easing back into our routine after returning. On the personal front, the month had its share of dramas and arguments, leaving me at a point where I feel unheard in my own home. This experience has solidified my resolve to prioritize myself in 2025.

Kid’s School Updates

My child has been more settled in her class, which is heartening to see. However, we continue to receive consistent feedback from the school stating that “she does classwork as per her mood.” While we plan to address this in the upcoming PTM, I find myself questioning the expectations placed on a six-year-old. Isn’t it natural for a child to have moods, likes, and dislikes?

Embroidery and Hobbies

In the last week of December, I revisited an old embroidery project. With more time on hand now, I’m determined to finish it and start a new project in 2025.

December Reading Highlights

December was a good month for reading, and I enjoyed the books I managed to finish:

  • Books Read: 8
  • Pages Read: 1,151

Books I Read and Loved

  • Under the Mistletoe Collection: This was a delightful novella series, perfect for the holiday season. My favorites were Cruel Winter, Merriment and Mayhem, and Only Santas in the Building.
  • Tales from the Café: A heartwarming, poignant, and cozy time-travel contemporary. While I enjoyed revisiting the café and meeting its endearing characters, the repetitiveness of the narrative made it slightly less engaging.
  • Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility: Both were fascinating experiences, vastly different from the modern romances I’m accustomed to. I appreciated the drama and character growth, though the slower pacing required some adjustment.

I didn’t have high expectations for my stats, but they turned out surprisingly good. Although I didn’t manage to post regular weekly updates, as I often wasn’t in the mood to write, I thoroughly enjoyed writing Dubai Diaries post this month.

December in Shows and Movies

  • Persuasion (Netflix): While I enjoyed the cinematography and some of the changes, the movie failed to capture Anne’s growth as well as the book.
  • The Law According to Lidia Poët: I watched both seasons and thoroughly enjoyed them, despite some unmet expectations. I had hoped for more courtroom drama and Lidia’s fight for recognition as a lawyer. Instead, the series primarily focuses on her solving murder cases as her brother’s assistant. While her ongoing appeal and rejection and efforts to change the law are secondary layers, the show remains captivating.

Plans for January

I haven’t yet written my year-end wrap-up or compiled a favorite reads list. I plan to start working on them this week and publish posts throughout January.
