Monthly Wrap Up : April 2021

Hello Readers! I hope you all had amazing April! Is it just me or there is someone like me who felt this month went so fast? Ever since January I wasn’t really satisfied with blog or reading. It was going so slow but this month, comparatively, was good, really productive, and satisfying both with reading and blogging.

Blog and Reading

It was 4th Blog Birthday in April. Yay to that and I hope to keep blogging for long time.

I did get out of my comfort zone and wrote a post that wasn’t review or book promotional post. It’s Bookstagram Tools I love and Recommend. Not the best but I liked all responses I got. I have written a prompt post and have note down a discussion point, it’s nothing new, got the idea from other blogger but still I want to make effort.

I Signed up in Blogchatter reading challenge – nothing new there. Like Goodreads it’s number challenge. But this platform made me connect with Indian book bloggers. Some are really great and I have started following them.

I read max this month. 10 books! 2 were short stories but still 8 was also good looking at previous months of this year.

Uncork My Love by Rich Amooi — [Review] ★★★★★
This was hilarious, entertaining and flawlessly written romcom with lovely characters and lots of banter. What I loved most was banter between characters. Author truly is King of Banter. It started from the very first chapter and was non-stop till the end. Conversations and dialogues were flawless. There were so many hilarious moments. I highly recommend this to fans of romcom, frenemies-to-lovers trope, and prefer to have lots of banter in their romcom.

Unwritten (The Zweeshen Chronicles, #1) by Alicia J. Novo — [Review] ★★★★★
This was fantastic YA dark fantasy, a perfect opening book in The Zweeshen Chronicles. World was absolutely brilliant. It was intricate, dark, gloomy and filled with magic. Author didn’t rush into things whether it was characters and their development, plot or the world and long chapters made it steady paced. I recommend this book to fantasy readers who prefer to have detailed world without feeling like info dump and like to take their time in the immersive world.

Finding Home by Kate Field — [Review] ★★★★★★
This was uplifting, fluffy, heart-warming, and and feel-good women’s fiction. Characters were all realistic, relatable and developed. Best things in the book were close-knit community, fossil walk, history of Devon coast, Easter Monday event, 2k and 4K sea swim challenge, As You Like Like it holidays caravan project, and Bea and Bill’s love story. I read one book by Jenny Colgan and this had similar vibes. I recommend this to fan of this genre.

Sea of Kings by Melissa Hope — [Review] ★★★★★
It was entreating, adventurous and enjoyable middle grade fantasy with captivating world, quirky characters, and intricate plot. I highly recommend this book to middle grade readers who love adventure and books set on seas.

The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams — [Review] ★★★★★
If you love words and their meaning, if you’re fascinated by them and how Oxford English Dictionary (OED) was created, process of it, and its history… You should read this book. Best part of the book was, it wasn’t just Esme’s story (which was fictional) but was the story of OED and lexicographer worked for it (which was historical fact) how seamlessly and beautifully author woven both fictional and historical parts. I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction. I managed to convince lot of readers to read The Dictionary of Lost Words so this might be one of the best review I have written so far.

Sir Lambalot by Jude Lennon — [Review] ★★★★★
This was was cute, fun, colourful and beautifully illustrated children’s book written in rhymes that kids would love and parents and teacher would love to read to kids. Best thing was the message in the book. Story was about kindness, presumptions and misunderstanding and listening others.

I Think I Love You by Auriane Desombre — [Review] ★★★★☆ (4.5)
This was was light, heart-warming, dramatic and entertaining YA romance. If you love hate-to-love romance, diverse characters, well written bisexual representation, and of course YA contemporary, I highly recommend this book.

Soul Lanterns by Shaw Kuzki ★★★★★
I just finished this yesterday and it was really amazing translated Japanese book. This was my first translated book and now think I should read more translated work. This was a middle grade historical fiction, story of three friends Nozomi, Kozo, and Shun, how they got the ide for cultural festival theme- Hiroshima Then and Now, and stories they already knew but discovered more about those stories by asking people close to them who lost someone in that horrific event and how even after 25 years that loss, grief, and regret was just as painful and yet they learned to live it. The message in the book was amazing. it was really short 176 pages story but packed so much emotions. Review will be up next in May

The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth ★★★★☆ (4.5)
riveting, compelling and engaging psychological thriller with amazing family dynamic and drama. I think this was not about who is bad and who is not- as author clearly didn’t hide it and hints were all over the book- but more about where it was going and how far the bad sister would go and if the good sister can save herself from her or not. I don’t see anything wrong with this book but I have to say The Mother-in-Law was even better than this. Review will be up next week.

The Matchmaker by Helene Fermont — [Review] ★★★☆☆
This was fast paced mystery thriller with fabulous beginning but then, for me, it turned out okay. Some turns were well written some I could easily see coming. Main thing I didn’t like was the repetitiveness. Maybe because of multiple perspective.  I liked One Fatal Night by author more than this one.
