If you could change something about yourself, would you do it? When Sarah Simpkins is teased about her shadow in the school playground, she finds herself wishing she didn’t have one. That night she has the chance to make the wish come true. But will losing her shadow really make her happy?

Sarah’s Shadow was a story about Sarah who on being teased about her thin and tall shadow in school ground made a wish that she didn’t have a shadow any more. But as soon as her wish was fulfilled she realized it was going to be difficult to be without shadow.
This was very sweet story, it was fun to read. In just few pages it made me curious to know how Sarah’s wish will come true and what will happen when she lost her shadow or of she will get it back or not. Storyline and language was smooth and very engaging. All illustrations were colorful and beautiful, created by keeping all small details in mind, specifically of Sarah and her shadow. Her expression and feelings was illustrated so beautifully.
The message behind the story was insightful. One should not listen to a person who always looking for something to tease you. It’s very important for kids to understand that falling under peer pressure is not good and consequences of peer pressure can be terrible, some wishes or things one can’t undo. By taking a shadow as object it also tells that no matter how you look or how much something about yourself you don’t like, you should embrace it as a part of yours.
I loved the way Sarah realized her mistake and found her shadow eventually. The end was very powerful and I loved all the tricks she made. Parents would love to read this book with their kids. It will help them to open discussion on peer pressure and other small messages told by this story. It’s a perfect classroom book.
Overall, it was wonderful book with insightful messages and lovely illustrations. I recommend this book to all teachers, parents, and kids would love to read.

Author Bio: 

Nick Jones is an author based in Cheshire, UK, but originally from Bristol. He has written a series of joke books and an illustrated children’s book. His first joke book, Gagged and Bound, was written during the summer of 2014 and was published by Full Media Ltd later in the year to critical acclaim, garnering positive reviews from numerous book review websites such as Reader’s Favorite and The Bookbag. A follow-up, Gagged and Bound 2, was released a year later and received a similarly positive response, and in 2017 Nick returned with the third instalment. Nick returned with a very different book, Sarah’s Shadow, in December 2017. He has several new books in the pipeline including two picture books and a children’s joke book.
