Kiss of Fire is magical paranormal romance, first book of ‘Imdalind’ series.
Blurb (in my words)–
Joclyne was marked strangely at small age that changed her whole life. Her father left her, she became reserved, hiding under baggy clothes to hide her mark. The only star in her life is her best friend Ryland (Ry).
At age 17, she receives a letter from her long lost father. Explaining about magic she couldn’t understand. After that she experiences weird things, she pushed a bully 10 feet high in air one day, a blonde guy is stalking her, and then Ry discovers about her scar who knows what it meant.
What’s all mystery behind the scar and blonde guy? Will she get the answers?
My view:
Characters– Let’s start with favorite-
Ilyan- Amazing, smart, handsome, mature, royal attitude, kind. Just love him. <3 Wyn- sweet, girly, fierce, adorable. Talon- loyal and good. Ryland (Ry)- second main character- Good, protective, perfect friend and boyfriend. Ovailia- mean, insolent, but love her sibling. I’m not judging her right now knowing what she has gone through and I’m sure there will be more to this character in next books of the series that may make her nature reasonable. But in this book surely unlikable. And PROTAGONIST- Joclyn- Agghh! I did’t like her. I will explain it why in ‘didn’t like section’ below.
My favorite lone from the book:
“And locked inside me somewhere, I will always be waiting for you.”
What I liked? First of all the story and concept was really good. Interesting and touching opening of the book with receiving mark and tragedy of Joclyn’s family. Joclyn and Ry’s friendship, their emotions for each other felt so raw, real, and heartwarming. Their Forbidden love kept me glued to book. Czech words in the book were interesting, it gave book a different touch. Theories / stories behind mark, about Ilyan and his family, about magical world was so amazing and different that it made this story stand out from other paranormal romance.
First half of the book was little slow, it made book suspenseful, I was looking for all the secrets to unrevealed, wanted to know what that magic and mark is all about. Yup, I didn’t get it till around 45% of the book. Only hints. All interesting thing came in the second half. I have mixed feeling for this first part because of this reason. I liked the suspense but at the same time it made me impatient and irritable.
Second half of the book captures all the speed magically possible. You that feeling you get when your plane taxiing on the runway and suddenly accelerate fully to take off. That’s how it felt at this point. It made first half worth reading. Actions, magic, fight, stories, all was there. It was exciting. Antagonist was such an evil, I haven’t met such antagonist yet.
End- Expected yet interesting. First chapter of the next book was really interesting and I’m curious to see what happens next.
Why 3.5? Okay first half as I told was too stretched. I’m sorry to say but Joclyne was the biggest reason I cut the stars. Too whiny for my liking. She was getting on my nerves throughout the book. I tried to understand her but I couldn’t. First, she made her life miserable because of mark, she was exaggerating most of the time. How can she say it was ugly when she hasn’t saw it properly until Wyn told her? Why baggy clothes and hoodies! Okay, got it she was afraid, but she could hide it by wearing scarf or with her hair. She was really beautiful but her behavior shadowed it. She was weak and lacked confidence. All the time she was having panic attack and totally dependent on Ry and then Ilyan. She wasn’t even letting in good people in her life except Ry.
There was so much potential in this character but it didn’t come out in this book. I hope it will be there in the next books of the series.
Overall, it was good and interesting book.
Who should read it? YAs. If you are looking for different magical books this is the one.

I could see your problems with the heroine. It’s hard to enjoy the whole story when you cannot connect with the heroine. Anyway, what an amazing, honest review. 😊👍🏻
