𝙃𝙚𝙧 𝙇𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨: A Novel of Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley by Stephanie Marie Thornton ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

#HerLostWords is moving and beautifully written #historicalfiction on the lives of Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter Mary Shelley. Their love of literature, zeal for language, radical feminist beliefs, and challenges they faced in their lives during the 18th and 19th centuries are genuinely inspiring.

I knew nothing about Mary Wollstonecraft and her books before I read this, nor I knew she was the mother of Mary Shelley, Frankenstein’s author that also I haven’t read yet and I also don’t know anything about Mary Shelly’s life. So Her Lost Words has been informative and educational for me.

The pace is slow but the writing is so beautiful that I devoured every word or every page. The story is written in dual timeline with alternative perspectives of Mary Wollstonecraft (from 1775 to 1979) and Mary Shelley (from 1814 to 1831).

Her Lost Words covers theme and layers of gender inequality, women’s position in male dominant world and industry, impact of war and revolution on the country and people, injustice and biased legal system towards women, childbirth issues and diseases around this era.

It was amazing to read the parallel life story of mother and daughter that showed they have so many things in common and how deep the connection was even though they never got to know each other.

It was interesting to read in the author’s notes about which parts were changed or fictionalized and which were kept close to facts.

What I loved most is snippets from the work of authors in this book – Mary Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron. It was also interesting to read mentions of some well-known and some forgotten historical figures of the era.

Overall, this is emotive, poignant, touching, inspiring, and beautifully written historical fiction on the life of Mary Wollstonecraft, one of the world’s founding feminist philosophers, and her daughter Mary Shelley, mother of modern sci-fi literature.

𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙨 𝘿𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙨 & Other Adventures of Litttle Shambu by Reena Ittyerah Puri, Savio Mascarenhas (Illustrator) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#StrangusDerangus is fun and cute children’s book. I didn’t know when I received the book that this was turned into 6-in-1 chapter book format from a comic book.

I loved all the characters. Shambu is my most favorite. He is kind and lovely who loves all animals. He is a normal boy who isn’t very mischievous but definitely finds himself in some kind of adventure every time. Each adventure includes different animals and we see Shambu helping and rescuing them.

the adventure includes finding a lost cat, finding the carrot thief, rescuing a rat from Rat Exterminator, setting up an exhibition of exotic animals to earn money for ice creams (my kid loves this the most), rescuing a garden snake that helped in keeping the class bully away, and rescuing a stolen panda (that tackles the issue of animal rights).

What I loved most is there is also thoughts of the animals in the stories which sure will make it fun for kids. Illustrations are another best part. Writing is super easy.

𝙄𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙧’𝙨 𝘿𝙚𝙣 & More Adventures of Little Shambu by Reena Ittyerah Puri, Savio Mascarenhas (Illustrator)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#IntheBearsDen is as fun and cute as the first book. Writing is easy for kids. My 4 yr old kid could read many sentences on her own.

This time Shambu find himself rescuing his dog Dum Dum and finding a lost tiger cub, helping the bear cub and his mama to be free from their master (that tackles the issue of animal rights), saving his baby cousin from a rattlesnake (this too shows how taking animals away from their natural habitat could disturb them), saving Shanti’s cat’s friend from JJ-the class bully, finding a lost baby elephant of the temple (this shows how animal dislikes being kept in one place and fed same food), and rescuing a snake and also a frog.

Overall, both Strangus Derangus and In the Bear’s Den are fun, cute, and lovely illustrated children’s stories.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝙇𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙖 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣 ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5

The Daydreams is emotive and realistic character-driven reunion contemporary fiction that revolves around four friends Kat, Summer, Liana, and Noah who met on the set of the teen musical TV show The Daydream as teenagers in 2004 but live show at the end of the second season changed their lives and broke their friendship and now in 2018 they get a second chance in reunion special.
They all have reason to come back – guilt, forgiveness, redemption, revenge, first love, and a chance to move forward.

It was interesting to read what happened all those years ago, will they get their second chance, or will it turn out the biggest mess.

Writing is captivating, emotive, and flawless. The story is told in alternative timeline, present 2018 and past 2004-2005. Most of the story is told from Kat’s perspective but in the second half we get other character’s POVs that added amazing twists and turns to the story.
Characters are realistic but they all are flawed, complex, and imperfect that makes the plot super dramatic. It was hard to like them as they all were at fault at some point and at the same time I wanted them to have better ending and better life after this reunion.

What I loved most is theme and layers in the story. The representation of teen exploitation in the TV industry, how much industry takes from the actors and gives less, paparazzi and its impact on mental health, teen emotions, stress of stardom, gender and color discrimination, friendship, and first love was amazingly written.

There is lots of buildup and the middle portion is a bit slow. I absolutely enjoyed the book. Last 30% of the book were mind-blowing, full of tension and twist and turns. The end is satisfying and uplifting.

Overall, The Daydreams is emotive, realistic, dramatic and fast-paced character-driven reunion contemporary fiction with redemption arc.
