Synopsis
Little by little, drop by drop Kailash Satyarthi devoted his life to battling international child labor and exploitation. In 2014 his work earned him a Nobel Peace Prize alongside Malala Yousafzai.
“My only aim in life is that every child is free to be a child.”
Kailash Satyarthi has fought injustice his whole life. As a young boy, he raised money so poor children could attend school. When he was a teen, he combatted caste discrimination by sharing a meal with “untouchables.” And as an adult, he fought against child labor and for increased education, ultimately rescuing over a hundred thousand children. This inspiring picture book shows that anyone can strive for change in their community that make a big difference around the world.
Review
I’m honestly shocked I’d never heard of Kailash Satyarthi before — it felt like someone dumped a bucket of cold water on my brain and yelled, “Time to brush up on your general knowledge!”
Seeker of Truth was a fascinating look at young Kailash Sharma, who was inspired by the story of a tiny hummingbird trying to put out a raging forest fire — doing what little it could, even when it seemed hopeless. Kailash was lucky to get an education, but seeing children forced into labor while he got to go to school deeply moved him. Like the hummingbird, he set out to change the system — and while he was just one small voice at first, he refused to back down, even when his parents and society tried to silence him.
His hard work, grit, and sheer persistence transformed him from Kailash Sharma to Kailash Satyarthi — a name now known around the world for fighting child labor and pushing for every child’s right to education. I especially loved his powerful message and slogan: “Every child is free to be a child and free to go to school and dream.”
Seeker of Truth is an inspiring read for kids — a beautiful lesson in standing up for what’s right, even when the world pushes back. It’s a reminder of the power of determination, compassion, and the fight for a better world.
Overall, Seeker of Truth is an inspiring Children’s Non-Fiction that reminds us even small actions can spark big change. It’s a powerful story to share with children — teaching them the value of courage, persistence, and standing up for what’s right, no matter how overwhelming the odds. Highly recommended for readers of all ages.
