Life Lately and Recent Reads #WeeklyRecap (March 10, 2025)

Last month, I skipped weekly wrap-ups due to a lot going on in life. Honestly, I almost didn’t write this one either, but I decided to go for it—just a bit late, hence the delay. Check out what I read and watched in this Weekly Wrap Up post, Life Lately and Recent Reads-

Life Update

Last week was really good. I had the house to myself and kept it organized and clean, just the way I like it. With no extra pressure to deal with, everyone’s mood improved, and there were fewer arguments. The week ended on a high note with my kid’s graduation day at school. She performed a dance and did amazingly well. I was so proud to see her remember all the steps—and this time, she sang along too! Her progress has been so visible, and I hope she continues to grow and thrive in the coming months.

School officially ends in the middle of the week, so we’ve decided to visit my brother-in-law in Mumbai. We’ll be staying for a week and returning just in time for the orientation at her new school. I haven’t drafted or scheduled any posts for later this week or next week. If I find time to write, I might post something, but it’s unlikely. So, after Wednesday’s post (which I still need to write), I’ll be active on the blog on or after the 20th.

What I Read

I reread A Perfect Equation and then immediately started A Love by Design, which I finished late last night. I absolutely loved A Lady’s Formula for Love and A Perfect Equation, but somehow, A Love by Design wasn’t as perfect. The beginning set high expectations, which may be why I felt that way.

I enjoyed reading about Margaret and Grantham’s lives, their past, what led them to separate, and how they find their way back to each other. The subplot involving the tunnel project and Armitage’s role in it was a red flag from the start, and I liked how it added complexity to Margaret’s life. The climax had me on edge, but the resolution of that subplot felt rushed. Still, I enjoyed the book overall and would rate it 4.5 stars.

What I’m Reading Next

Yup, I’m binge reading Elizabeth Everett books and this The Damsels of Discovery is spin off series of The Secret scientists of London so I figure this will feature other secondary characters of Athena’s retreat. I can’t wait to see what happens in this series and if I get to see old characters.

What I Watched

I watched the animated movie Spellbound with my kid. She wasn’t thrilled about the word monsters—especially since the main character’s parents turned into them—but she braved through it because she loved the purple hamster-like creature, Flink.

There were many fun moments, and I really liked the message about darkness and light within us, and how our emotions influence which one we bring closer. The idea that anger and fighting led to the parents’ transformation into monsters hit her hard—she even said she wouldn’t fight or get angry anymore! We’ll see how long that lasts.

Another important takeaway from the movie was that having a “perfect” family isn’t necessary; what matters is that both parents love you, even if they live separately. Overall, it was a fun watch and perfect for its target audience.
