In his endless quest for more, he drives away the only person who saw him as enough.
It isn’t until she’s gone that he realizes there may be more to life than riches and glory…but by then, it may be too late.
***
Kind, intelligent, and thoughtful, Alessandra Davenport has played the role of trophy wife for years.
She stood by her husband while he built an empire, but now that they’ve reached the top, she realizes he’s no longer the man she fell for.
When it becomes clear that she’ll always come second to his work, she finally takes charge of her life and puts herself first—even if it means leaving the only man she’s ever loved.
But what she didn’t count on was his refusal to let her go…or for him to fight for their marriage, no matter what it takes.
King of Greed is a steamy marriage in trouble/second chance romance. It’s book three in the Kings of Sin series but can be read as a standalone.
Review
King of Greed takes place about three years after the first book and follows the story of Dominic and Alessandra, who have been married for ten years. From the first book, we see their marriage was on the brink of collapse—Dominic was always consumed by work, leaving Alessandra feeling neglected and unhappy. She loved him and hoped that one day he would be satisfied with his wealth and return to being the loving husband he once was. But that hope was slipping further away.
When Dominic forgets their ten-year anniversary, it shatters Alessandra’s last bit of hope. Heartbroken, she does something she never imagined—she leaves him and serves him with divorce papers. It takes Alessandra walking away for Dominic to realize what he had taken for granted—her, her love, and the time he wasted chasing success while neglecting the most important part of his life. Now, he’s determined to win her back, but first, he has to change—his priorities, his workaholic nature, and himself. The question is, can he truly put love before ambition?
I adored both Alessandra and Dominic. it was amazing to see glimpses of their past—the way they met, how Dominic proposed, and the struggles they faced in building Davenport Capital together. Their love for each other was undeniable and their chemistry was off the charts, which made it all the more heartbreaking to watch their marriage unravel.
I connected with Alessandra right away and rooted for her throughout. Her relationships with her mother and brother highlighted her caring, compassionate, and selfless nature—something that extended to Dominic as well. But that same selflessness, the habit of always putting herself second, cost her dearly. If she had voiced her unhappiness and set boundaries earlier, things might have been different. Still, I admired her for finally choosing herself and taking that difficult but necessary step.
While I wasn’t a fan of how she kept going back to Dominic, especially their “sex deal” before things truly resolved, I did love how she made him grovel for neglecting her for years. That said, I also understood her hesitation—walking away from a man she loved for so long was never going to be easy. I respected that she gave Dominic another chance, but on her own terms.
Dominic was mind-blowing. Cold, ruthless, and controlling in business, yet completely at Alessandra’s mercy. Watching him break down after she left was both touching and satisfying. But his actions, determination, and devotion for Alessandra definitely set some wildly unrealistic expectations for men in real life.
Like Alessandra said, he always knew the right words to say, and he had a way of winning hearts. Honestly, if she hadn’t given him a second chance, I might have. What stood out the most, though, was learning about his past—how his childhood shaped him into the man he became, his deep-seated fears, and how his love for Alessandra pushed him to change. The way he pursued her—flowers, vacations, helping with her shop, those “touch-her-or-die” looks—was relentless, and I loved every second of it.
Roman, Dominic’s foster brother, showing up was an interesting twist. It was clear he had an agenda, but the “when” and “why” kept me on edge. When the moment finally came, it played out differently than I expected, but in a good way. I also enjoyed seeing familiar faces again, especially overprotective Dante and his glimpses of love for his daughter.
Overall, King of Greed is a delightful and sexy second-chance billionaire romance. If not for the dragged-out plot and predictability, I would have loved it even more.
