Synopsis
Amit wants a puppy. But when a pokey-bitey-chewy-peeing pup turns up, he is not sure he wants a dog any more . . .
Review
Amit always wanted a puppy, but his parents were against the idea. That changed when his uncle rescued a puppy from an accident and brought it to Amit’s home. The puppy was skinny and had a broken leg.
Amit was overjoyed to have the puppy and loved playing with it. However, as the puppy’s health and energy improved, it began making a mess around the house. One day, it even bit Amit’s nose. Amit’s excitement turned to frustration, and he started to regret wanting the puppy. That changed again when his teacher forgave him for forgetting his homework because of the same puppy.
The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is heartwarming, filled with fun, love, and empathy for animals. The advertisement Amit’s parents sent around, and the responses they received were both hilarious and insensitive. I loved how the parents who initially didn’t want the puppy easily accepted the foster dog, while it took Amit longer to come to the same acceptance.
I do wish the ending was different. It’s a bit unbelievable that a teacher would excuse forgotten homework because of a puppy. Ever tried telling a teacher that a dog ate your homework? I’d get a note to my parents and detention!
Overall, “Puppy Trouble” is a fun, heartwarming, and lovely story about the human-animal relationship that all kids who dream of getting a dog will enjoy.

Review
“The Adventures of Ed-a-Mamma” is a charming story about a lonely girl named Alia who encounters strange experiences that lead her to Ed, a homeless dog. Although Alia’s parents are initially hesitant to adopt a pet, Alia and Ed, with the help of Alia’s superpowers, manage to convince them.
While at first it may seem like a typical animal rescue story, what sets it apart is Alia’s unique connection with nature and her extraordinary ability to understand and communicate with animals. The friendship between Alia and Ed is heartwarming.
The author beautifully conveys messages of compassion, kindness towards animals, and care for the environment. I especially appreciated the emphasis on protecting the environment and paying more attention to nature.
The illustrations bring the story to life with their pleasing color palettes, making it even more engaging for young readers.
Overall, “The Adventures of Ed-a-Mamma” is a delightful, lovely, and heartwarming tale of friendship with an animal and a deep connection with nature.

This book features fifty incredible people—artists, scientists, freedom fighters, social workers, sports stars and many others from different walks of life—who have proven that determination, perseverance and courage are the only ingredients needed to accomplish remarkable things.
Celebrating seventy years of the Padma Awards, this beautifully illustrated book will inspire young readers to dream big and persevere against all odds.
Review
The Padmas compiles the stories of fifty remarkable individuals who have been honored with the prestigious Padma Awards.
The book features one-page biographies of Indians from various fields, including art, science, education, philanthropy, medicine, music, sports, freedom fighting, and social work. These individuals come from diverse backgrounds, have faced numerous challenges, and have reached great heights through sheer determination, perseverance, and courage.
Written in a simple and captivating narrative, the book appeals to readers of all ages with its colorful pages and inspirational stories. It not only highlights the achievements of these laureates but also delves into their journeys, showing how they contributed to the country and paved the way for others to follow their dreams.
I recognized a few names mentioned in this book, such as Abdul Kalam, Homi Bhabha, Milkha Singh, Sudha Murthy, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom, and Ruskin Bond. However, I also found inspiration in the lesser-known stories of individuals like Abdul Khader, Dr. Kaushal Konwar Sharma, E.K. Janki Ammal, H.M. Seervai, Saroj Raj Chowdhury, Narthaki Nataraj, and Teejan Bai.
Overall, The Padmas is an inspiring and motivating compilation of biographies celebrating the lives and contributions of Padma Award laureates.

Synopsis
‘The future depends on what you do today.’ –Mahatma Gandhi
When games periods are cancelled and Petu and his friends unearth a sinister conspiracy, there is only one thing to be done–to seek inspiration from the founders of our nation, and protest.
But the path to freedom and justice is not a straight and narrow one. Many unexpected challenges crop up, including malicious media, the real-estate mafia, credit-stealing politicians and scary security guards.
Will the Awesome Fivesome expose the land-grabbers and save their playground? Will justice prevail?
Review
Petu Pumpkin Freedom Fighter is fun and charming story of five friends who called themselves the awesome fivesome – Pushkin aka Petu Pumpkin, Sachin, Jatin, Nithin, and Kiran.
They are not happy about school forbid kids to use playground and now it is canceling their game class. When they discover that the principal has fired their game teacher and decided to give the playground to a local politician to build a shopping mall, they decide to take action.
It was fascinating to see how Petu Pumpkin and his friends managed to stop the school management, powerful tycoons, and politicians. Their plan was amusing and surprisingly effective. I enjoyed how an initially failed protest later turned in their favor.
I loved reading about how the kids knew their rights and fought for them without any adult help. Their idea of turning Petu into a Gandhi figure and the way they implemented it was hilarious. I didn’t expect to laugh so hard, and I’m sure it will leave kids cracking up while reading the whole scenario. I enjoyed how author brought characters to life through their quirks.
Author perfectly mixed humor with realistic issues making it engaging for kids and at the same time conveying important message of power of protest, standing up for what is right, and raising voice against wrong and for your rights. There is also message for adults about not discounting kids’ voice and concerns.
The story also raises awareness about the manipulations of politicians and the media. There are mentions of many freedom fighters, educating kids about them, and providing little facts related to protests.
Overall, “Petu Pumpkin Freedom Fighter” is a fun and charming children’s fiction filled with humor and inspiring messages.

Carla
All great reviews, Yesha. I love the sound of the animal ones, althought as a retired teacher, “the dog ate my homework” would never have flown in my classroom. I’ve never heard of the Padma awards, but what a great book to introduce important people from India to everyone.

Thank you, Carla! Yes, that was incredulous reason to be given in today’s time but well otherwise it was fun. Padma is definitely amazing book to introduce kids to important people who did great work in their lifetime.

Yes, it does seem a bit weird that the book leans into the “the dog ate my homework!” cliche and suggests a teacher would believe that.

Yes, my teacher would have given detention or extra homework 😂

Puppy Trouble looks adorable! Though I agree. I don’t think any of my teachers would have forgiven my homework because of a puppy!
Books Teacup and Reviews
Yes, that was silly but I guess teacher forgiving homework because of puppy can be a fantasy for a kid.
