Weekly Wrap-up : (14/12/’20) #WeeklyWrapup #WeekinReading
Hello readers! I hope you all are safe and had great week. This month didn’t start well. I took a break from blogging in the beginning of the month because of slow internet, half the time I didn’t have proper signal in phone, and I was busy with packing our furniture and wind up remaining things. My maternal grandfather and dad’s best friend passed away in COVID in same week. I couldn’t be with my mother in that week so last week went in supporting my mom and cleaning rent house here in my home town. Now I think we took right decision of moving to our hometown at right time. I can be near my family and my mom now. It’s been rough two weeks. I couldn’t enjoy what I was reading until last book I finished yesterday. Next two weeks are going to be busy as well with unpacking. Ah, I hope next year arrives soon and has something good in store for all of us.
What I read last week –
All I Want for Christmas by Wendy Loggia
was Christmassy, cozy, and very cute contemporary holiday read. It was perfect for young audience, specifically middle grade and YA readers. It was cute to read Bailey’s first time at relationship, Christmas spirit, and believing in Christmas magic. What I didn’t like was Love triangle trope. I knew who bailey was going to end up with. I wish there was more depth to characters and development.
New Year’s Kiss by Lee Matthews
fun and uplifting New Year themed YA romance that revolved around Tess’ ten bucket list to accomplish before New Year. I was surprised and at the same time enjoyed reading how Tess and Christopher became friends, started having feelings, managed to fight, derailed and made up in just four days. But never I felt it was too short time. Author filled this duration with flying paper plane, skiing a black diamond slope, meeting famous star, singing in public, lots of drama, fun, and entertainment. . Out of all holiday themed book I have read recently, I enjoyed this most.

Warmaidens (Gravemaidens #2) by Kelly Coon
Warmaidens is the dark, action-packed conclusion to the heartwrenching Gravemaidens fantasy duology. Kammani and the maidens are now going to war against the ruler who tried to entomb them.
Just a few moons after escaping the tomb in Alu, Kammani and the other runaway maidens have found refuge in the city-state of Manzazu. There, Kammani has become a respected healer, especially among the warriors she’s brought back from the brink of death. Now that the nightmares of Alu are fading, she can finally decide whether or not to take Dagan’s hand in marriage.
But when an assassin murders a healer he believes is Kammani and attempts to kill the displaced queen of Alu, the maidens realize they’ve been found.
Hungry for revenge, Manzazu’s queen wants to strike back at Alu with her fiercest weapons—her scorpion warrior maidens—but Kammani knows that war harms more than it heals. To save the innocents and any chance of a future with Dagan, Kammani must take down Alu’s ruler before their lives burn up in the flames of war.
I just started reading this and I have to say I don’t remember all secondary characters I read in first book and now I have to go back and see if I have written something about them in my reviews or notes.
Next I’ll be reading –
The War Widow (Billie Walker Mystery #1) by Tara Moss
The war may be officially over, but journalist Billie Walker’s search for a missing young immigrant man will plunge her right back into the danger and drama she thought she’d left behind in Europe in this thrilling tale of courage and secrets set in glamorous postwar Sydney.
Sydney, 1946. Though war correspondent Billie Walker is happy to finally be home, for her the heady postwar days are tarnished by the loss of her father and the disappearance in Europe of her husband, Jack. To make matters worse, now that the war is over, the newspapers are sidelining her reporting talents to prioritize jobs for returning soldiers. But Billie is a survivor and she’s determined to take control of her own future. So she reopens her late father’s business, a private investigation agency, and, slowly, the women of Sydney come knocking.
At first, Billie’s bread and butter is tailing cheating husbands. Then, a young man, the son of European immigrants, goes missing, and Billie finds herself on a dangerous new trail that will lead up into the highest levels of Sydney society and down into its underworld. What is the young man’s connection to an exclusive dance club and a high class auction house? When the people Billie questions about the young man start to turn up dead, Billie is thrown into the path of Detective Inspector Hank Cooper. Will he take her seriously or will he just get in her way? As the danger mounts and Billie realizes that much more than one young man’s life is at stake, it becomes clear that though the war was won, it is far from over.
This sounds interesting historical mystery set in post-WWII Australia. This was inspired by author’s own grandparents who endured (and escaped from) Nazi work camps. I can’t wait to read this.
Thank you for reading! Let me know in comments what you are currently reading and planning to read next, or if you have read any of these books.
