Review
The Adventures of Maya is STEM book for kids, a collection of three adventures of Maya that introduces three STEM area to young readers.
We all had that question as kid “what we want to be when we grow up” and we would aspire based on all common areas we have seen adults working in or heard them talk about, like scientist or doctor. This installment introduces young readers to different STEM areas that aren’t just scientist or doctor. There are three areas covered here – Animator, Marine Biologist and Forensic Scientist. In all three stories Maya hear about the field, learn more about it from adults, and dream to be one.
What I loved most in these stories is how knowing about different fields spark Maya’s curiosity and feeds her imagination. She also have dream about it and in that dream she let her imagination run free stemming her interest more in idea of becoming Animator, Marine Biologist or Forensic Scientist.
My 5 yr old kid sure didn’t know about any of these areas. My kid could read most of words but I don’t think she still understand meaning of them. However, she enjoyed learning more about them when I put it in more simpler form to her. She might love this more after a year or two and it was fun to read the book with her.
All readers adults and kids alike can relate to protagonist in how she keeps changing what we want to be as soon as she hears about new exciting field.
All illustration are colorful and imaginative. I loved how author included facts about each areas in the end also gave activity for kids to follow. The stories not just encourage adult and kids to discuss about different STEM areas but also have a message for parents to encourage kids to be whatever they wants.
Overall, The Adventures of Maya is imaginative, easy-to-read STEM book for kids that feed the curiosity of young mind and encourage them to be whatever they wants to be.

I know these books are targeting girls, but I also think my grandson would really get something out of these books. Being neurodivergent, it is tough to decide what he might want to do in the future. Great review, Yesha.

Thank you, Carla! I hope next series might add more area. Of course, there is lots of time for kids to choose what they like but this is great way to introduce them to different area.
