Week of good and bad things – Weekly Wrap Up
Hello readers! I hope you all are well and had a great week. Last week had been okaish. Let’s start with bad things– My father was tested positive and I hate to say but my mom and other family members are not being careful. Potty training is not going well, my kid is being more fearful so we decided to take little break. We are getting really tired with her refusal and tantrums and it’s like we taking one step ahead but going three steps back. Good thing– I won Amazon gift card and of course I used it to buy more books (there goes resolution of buying less books.. but it’s not from my pocket so maybe it doesn’t count!). I watched Witcher season 2 in weekends and I just loved it. It was much better than first season and it is getting so interesting making me want to get books. That revealation at end was jaw dropping. I can’t wait for 3rd season. If you have watched season 2 let me know what you think and if could you guess that end.
I read 1 book and started reading 2 so this week I plan to finish 2 books I started and they will be last books of the month.
I read
A Secret at Tansy Falls by Cate Woods
This was heartwarming story. It was great to revisit the beautiful setting of Tansy Falls and I enjoyed knowing Connie Austen, hotel manager of Covered Bridge Inn and her life problems. But it didn’t wow me like first book did. My review will be up tomorrow.

Now entering its second century, the prestigious annual story anthology has a new title, a new look, and a new guest editor. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has brought her own refreshing perspective to the prize, selecting stories by an engaging mix of celebrated names and young emerging voices. The winning stories are accompanied by an introduction by Adichie, observations from the winning writers on what inspired them, and an extensive resource list of magazines that publish short fiction.
Featured in this collection: Daphne Palasi Andreades – David Means- Sindya Bhanoo- Crystal Wilkinson- Alice Jolly- David Rabe- Karina Sainz Borgo (translator, Elizabeth Bryer) – Jamel Brinkley- Tessa Hadley – Adachioma Ezeano- Anthony Doerr- Tiphanie Yanique – Joan Silber – Jowhor Ile – Emma Cline – Asali Solomon – Ben Hinshaw – Caroline Albertine Minor (translator, Caroline Waight) – Jianan Qian – Sally Rooney
This is collection contemporary and literary fiction and so far I have read 4 stories out of which 2 I enjoyed. First two are not my cup of tea and it made me rethink if it was right to pick this one but the next two stories were amazing. There are total 20 short stories and I hope they all are not like first two.
Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon
Ari Abrams has always been fascinated by the weather, and she loves almost everything about her job as a TV meteorologist. Her boss, legendary Seattle weatherwoman Torrance Hale, is too distracted by her tempestuous relationship with her ex-husband, the station’s news director, to give Ari the mentorship she wants. Ari, who runs on sunshine and optimism, is at her wits’ end. The only person who seems to understand how she feels is sweet but reserved sports reporter Russell Barringer.
In the aftermath of a disastrous holiday party, Ari and Russell decide to team up to solve their bosses’ relationship issues. Between secret gifts and double dates, they start nudging their bosses back together. But their well-meaning meddling backfires when the real chemistry builds between Ari and Russell.
Working closely with Russell means allowing him to get to know parts of herself that Ari keeps hidden from everyone. Will he be able to embrace her dark clouds as well as her clear skies?
A TV meteorologist and a sports reporter scheme to reunite their divorced bosses with unforecasted results in this charming romantic comedy from the author of The Ex Talk.
I read only 4 chapters yesterday and I already like this. I like Ari and KSEA news station where she works in weather department with her hero boss Torrence Hale who inspired her to persue atmospheric science but the hero that appeared on TV is different in reality. Torrence is total mess and always busy bickering with, Seth- her ex-husband and also director of KSEA- that she didn’t pay attention to her employee and unlike other Ari wants attention, she want to learn from her hero and get promotion. She can only talk to the ‘sports guy’ Russell whose boss is Seth and his problems with Seth are different but also same as Ari. I can’t wait to see how they going to play “Boss Trap” like parent trap and how that is going to work out.
Thank you for reading! Let’s chat…
Have you read any of these books or added to TBR?

I’m sorry to hear that you dad tested positive. It’s so frustrating when family doesn’t want to be careful. That happened with my family when COVID first happened. None of them were being safe and my mom, aunt, older sister, niece, and nephew all ended up getting COVID at the same time! That’s awesome that you won an Amazon gift card. I think buying new books doesn’t count if it doesn’t come from your pocket. 😛

Yes, and they keep risking by attending social fucnctions. They are out of quarantine but it’s still a risk. Their social life might be the reason I turn out semi-antisocial. It feels good when I can have other means to buy books without hurting my pocket. 😁

I’m so sorry to hear that your family is ill, Yesha. I hope everyone is back on their feet soon. Don’t sweat the potty training, it will happen. What books did you buy with your gift card? I always love when I win something. I want to read Weather Girl, I am hearing great things about it. I will watch for your review. The problem with anthologies is that there will usually be at least one or more that aren’t as good. Have a good week, Yesha.

My family is well, out of danger and yes we will take break with potty training.
Weather girl is good but it didn’t wow me like I expected. It will be 4.5 from me. And anthologies are slow to read that is another reason I don’t read them frequently. Thank you, Carla!

sending good vibes to your family for a fast recovery and a return to health!!! That short story book looks really good, I have a tendency to only read short stories when they’re free online but I’m thinking about buying an anthology

So sorry about your father testing positive. Hope he remains asymptomatic or only has the mildest form possible.
I can so relate to the potty training woes… Tried it three times at a distance of six months and the first two times he would get so stressed out that we had to postpone it. Then the third time it was amazingly easy… Every child is different and you know your daughter better than anyone else.
I’ve just finished Witcher Season 1, so will have to get back to you after I’ve watched the next one. So addictive, though 🙂 I think I started making the little grunt Geralt makes when he doesn’t agree or isn’t convinced by something.

My faher had fever for two days but now it’s just weakness because his oxygen level is 94. If it won’t reduce, he will be fine.
We will try at intervals too then. Right now she is in no mood to learn. She was saying she want to Pee before we started Potty training but then she stopped saying whenever she need to pee and will keep crying. It was hellish two weeks. Maybe I will try Next month or in March.
I enjoyed season 1 but second is even better. Geralt’s grunts are infectious. He is amazing and I also liked Jaskier. I bet you’ll love second season. It was thrilling. I watched it in just two days.

You’re doing the right thing with your daughter by waiting a bit. Poor thing. I just read Weather Girl over the weekend and sure enjoyed it.

Thanks you! it sometimes make me think if it’s wise idea to take break but then I can’t battle with her. Hopefully we will try again next month.
I couldn’t read today but I plan to read Weather Girl as much as I can once my daughter go to bed.

Hope your dad is only afflicted with mild symptoms and the rest of your family avoids the virus.

He had fever for two days but not now, only his oxygen is little low. Right now it’s 94 and we are hoping it won’t drop more.

Good books and sorry about the bad that happened for you during the week. Potty training can turn into a major battle and the kid wins. We had to push back several times as well. I understand your frustration.

Maybe like her delayed speech potty training will also take take lot of time! hopefully we will try again next month and see how it works.

The book you finished had zero appeal to me, but the two you are reading now seem promising. I need to get a good collection of short stories. The last I read were Doctorow, this past summer/falll. Enjoy your week!

Thank you, Rae! If you like those award winning literary fictions then you’ll like that Short story collection of 2021. I still need to make progress with it. Happy reading and have a great week.

Witcher has been in my Netflix queue since it was released, and I still haven’t gotten to it. I’m trying to wrap up another couple of series before I start it. Hope the potty training gets better!

I highly recommend The Witcher. Second season much better than first. I think you will like it. There is so much politics and power game.

Sounds like a very tough week. Hopefully this week will be much better. I’m in the middle of watching Witcher season 2 and I am enjoying it even more than season 1. I want to read the books so bad. Have a great week!

I have exacftly the same feeling. It’s so amazing and I loved charatcer developement. Geralt is definitely best. I have always enjoyed brooding, serious hero who uses less words.
