22 Best Books of 2022
Hello readers! I have finally made the list of 22 Best Books of 2022. I was going to publish this post last week but couldn’t because of many reasons. Anyways, this list is in order of month so first is the first five star read of the year and last is last five star one. There has been many other five star books but these books were, to me, the best books of the year. You can read full review by clicking on the title.
22 Best Books of 2022
1. Bound by Firelight (Wickery #2) by Dana Swift
This was action packed YA fantasy, a little darker than first book, filled with suspense and interesting twists.
2. The Siren of Sussex (Belles of London #1) by Mimi Matthews
This was a little (very little) slow paced but I loved this especially representation of part Indian hero in the Victorian era.
3. Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
This whole series was amazing so be ready to seeing all three in this list.
4. A Perfect Equation (The Secret Scientists of London #2) by Elizabeth Everett
STEMinist historical romance in the Victorian era. I think that’s more than enough description to read this. I bet you wouldn’t regret this.
5. The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page
Lots of stories within story. This was a hidden gem I discovered in 2022.
6. Gemina (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
This was the best in trilogy and Nik and Hanna is my favorite pair of the series. If I make an OTP list of 2022, they would be on the top.
7. Obsidio (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
I didn’t exactly like the ship of Asha and Rhys but what an absolute thrilling rollercoaster ride this was. I so much miss AIDAN (did I tell you it is my favorite AI).
8. The No-Show by Beth O’Leary
I almost didn’t like this because of Joseph but wow… I’m glad I stick with this till the end as the author gave mind-blowing surprise that changed my opinion.
9. The Mad Girls of New York (Nellie Bly #1) by Maya Rodale
Motivating and inspiring historical fiction on real historical figure of New York City’s Gilded Age. I always love historical fiction on real person and this was really amazing and well written.
10. Out of the Clear Blue Sky by Kristan Higgins
I loved this for being different than cheating husband books I read before and also for perspective from the other woman.
11. For the Love of the Bard by Jessica Martin
Second chance romance in Shakespearian town with many literary references was super refreshing.
12. It Happened One Summer (Bellinger Sisters #1) by Tessa Bailey
A very hot and sexy romance with amazing character, setting, and development.
13. The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
Poignant, touching, heartwarming romance. I loved the theme of death and grief and the concept of character who can see ghosts.
14. Raybearer (Raybearer #1) by Jordan Ifueko
Lots of themes and layers and an amazing detailed world with remarkable characters. This was full package. I also gave the sequel 5 stars but I think this was the best.
15. Some of It Was Real by Nan Fischer
I loved the concept and theme and characters. There was so much depth and emotions here. I think this was another hidden gem of 2022.
16. The Map and the Scissors by Amit Majmudar
An Indian historical fiction on two historical figures that played part in India’s freedom and partition. This was beautifully written and very thought-provoking.
17. The Belle of Belgrave Square (Belles of London #1) by Mimi Matthews
Another book, part of series that turned out better than first book and also most romantic book of the year.
18. Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
Swoonworthy, hate to love, and refreshing STEMinist romcom.
19. Donut Fall in Love (Donut Fall in Love #1) by Jackie Lau
heartwarming, swoonworthy, delectable romcom with celebrity falling for normal person trope.
20. Legendborn (Legendborn #1) by Tracy Deonn
Arthurian mortal instruments that has lots of layers, depth, and action. I’m sure getting the sequel this year.
21. The Sunbearer Trials (The Sunbearer Duology #1) by Aiden Thomas
Diverse, engaging, adventurous Mexican-inspired YA fantasy.
22. King of Scars (King of Scars #1) by Leigh Bardugo
intense and spectacularly written YA fantasy. Yes, you cannot compare this with Six of Crows but fans of author and Nikolai wouldn’t want to miss this.
Now I always feel it hard to name only one The Best Book of The Year out of the list so this time, I used this reading bracket I found on Pinterest. I chose the best book I read in a particular month for the bracket. There have been months in which I read lots of 5 stars books while in some months I didn’t like many books but one or two were really good in comparison so you might not see those in my best books list above.
Thank you for reading! Let’s chat..,
Which was the best book you read in 2022?
Has any of these been on year best book list?

Raybearer is such a good book and I’m glad to see that it made it to your best books list! It was one of my favs in 2021 (I think?) as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t like book 2 as much which was a bummer.
I love how you created a chart showing which book won out of the 22. I meant to make a similar one but forgot about it when the time came to write my post haha.

I loved sequel too but somehow it didn’t feel like the best like I felt for first book. But I have to say end of duology was the best. I haven’t seen something like that happening in fantasy a lot.
I hope you can make that bracket this year then. I have copied it in my journal so don’t forget too.

I’m amazed that you got so many 5 star reads throughout the year. I think I only had 2 myself hahah Love the list though and I won’t lie that I had a feeling Gemina would win it for some reason. 😀

I hope you get many five star this year then. Gemina is easy win. I’m definitely getting more books by Jay Kristoff this year.

I like how you did the bracket! I loved many books on this list and some I want to read. King of Scars is now on my TBR.

I loved this duology. The sequel Rule of Wolves is even better than King of Scars.

Very original the bracket at the end, I too do One Outstanding Read of the Year, usually I know during the year when I’ve read it, it lodges in my mind and doesn’t let go and if nothing else pushes it aside, then Voila, it becomes my One Outstanding Read of the year.
I haven’t read any on your list, but a few of them sound intriguing. My Top Read was Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk translated from Polish. An amazing read.
Happy Reading in 2023 and enjoy your tea! 🍵

Thank you! My problem is I often come across many outstanding books during the year that makes it hard to chose just one. I also love this idea of bracket and I ‘ll use if for 2023 as well. I ahven’t heard about that.. I need to read more translated books. I will sure keep that in mind. Thank you and wish you fantastic reading in2023 as well.
Lady Tessa

Brilliant list, I loved The Keeper of Stories

It was perfection. Thank you!
Reading Tonic
Fabulous post, Yesha! I love the bracket of the best books and the winners- couldn’t agree more! Redemptor was a bit short, but Raybearer was in a league of its own.
Books Teacup and Reviews
Thank you, Toni! I loved the sequel, it answered many questions but Raybearer is just amazing. It’s funny how some duology are overall amazing but we find only one of them the best.

Aaah, this list!! I wanna read all these so bad now, especially since I’m in a slump. Illuminae has been on my tbr since forever, good to know it’s in this list.
Awesome post!

Iluminae will be perfect to cure slump. What a thrill ride and don’t have a single dull moment. It will be my all time fav series now.
