I’m back with weekly updates

Hello readers! I haven’t been posting weekly wrap-ups for a month now. Nothing exactly has changed much, Last week was the same as all previous weeks in terms of reading but I really missed sharing life updates here so I’m back with weekly updates.

I'm back with weekly updates

Most reason for not reading as much as I would like is my kid. She is getting demanding now. If she want something, she wouldn’t wait even for a minute and now that she has learned to speak (still broken a little but enough for me to understand) she would say, “close the laptop“, and if I don’t she would shut the flap herself!! 😂 There is constant demands- “mummy, I want food”, “mommy, water”, “mommy, story time”, mommy, lunchtime”, “colors”… it feels never ending. 😪And there are house chores and keeping up with blog hop, social media. Some weeks were better when I could read two books a week while for most weeks I could read only one book.

Last week there was first book fair in my city after COVID that included both preloved and some new books with huge discount and I had to attend it. I found many amazing books I wanted to get in less than half price.

There was also a workshop in my kid’s school where I first time met her best friend, Narnia, and her mom. We exchanged numbers and she included me in ‘the moms group’. We also talked about meeting in weekends for play date. It was fun to meet moms and my kid’s other friends.

I also finished the hobbit house embroidery. Now I have to buy casement and new threads before I start something new but I will get it this week.

Here is reel I posted yesterday-

Another reel of my kid reading book title-
(when she is sitting with me when I go through Instagram, she reads easy titles now. She would say “heart” and “save” whenever I do like and save.)

Last week I read

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

Love on the Brain

I absolutely loved this book, even though it was predictable and has some similarities with The Love Hypothesis. It’s refreshing, entertaining and enjoyable nemesis to lovers romcom and even better than The Love Hypothesis. I highly recommend this. Check out the review HERE.

The Winter Orphans by Kristin Beck

A poignant and ultimately triumphant novel based on the incredible true story of children who braved the formidable danger of guarded, wintry mountain passes in France to escape the Nazis, from the acclaimed author of Courage, My Love.

In a remote corner of France, Jewish refugee Ella Rosenthal has finally reached safety. It has been three years since she and her little sister, Hanni, left their parents to flee Nazi Germany, and they have been pursued and adrift in the chaos of war ever since. Now they shelter among one hundred other young refugees in a derelict castle overseen by the Swiss Red Cross.

Swiss volunteers Rösli Näf and Anne-Marie Piguet uphold a common mission: to protect children in peril. Rösli, a stubborn and resourceful nurse, directs the colony of Château de la Hille, and has created a thriving community against all odds. Anne-Marie, raised by Swiss foresters, becomes both caretaker and friend to the children, and she vows to do whatever is necessary to keep them safe.

However, when Germany invades southern France, safeguarding Jewish refugees becomes impossible. Château de la Hille faces unrelenting danger, and Rösli and Anne-Marie realize that the only way to protect the eldest of their charges is to smuggle them out of France. Relying on Rösli’s fierce will and Anne-Marie’s knowledge of secret mountain paths, they plot escape routes through vast Nazi-occupied territory to the distant border. Amid staggering risk, Ella and Hanni embark on a journey that, if successful, could change the course of their lives and grant them a future.

I could only read 30% of the book in weekends but so far this story is touching and it’s heartaching to read the way Jews children were treated by France authorities. I can’t wait to see how Rosli is going to save children under her care, without any help from Swiss Red Cross.

Next I’ll be Reading

Abhimanyu by Anuja Chandramouli

ABHIMANYU, beloved son of Arjuna is one of the most endearing figures of Indian mythology. The Golden Prince, blazed across the realm of myth like an effervescent comet that lit up the heavens, yet was extinguished far too soon. In the killing field that was Kurukshetra, where countless evil deeds were perpetrated in the name of righteousness, Abhimanyu was a shining beacon of valour. All are aware of the legend but how many can claim to really know the young man, who was the best among the best? Anuja Chandramouli, bestselling author of Arjuna, takes apart a familiar narrative and puts it back together with originality and flair, delivering a profoundly moving take on a classic text. Narrated with deep intensity, Abhimanyu’s saga unfolds, shedding light on unexplored aspects of his remarkable life and extraordinary persona. The story casts a spell over the reader, who is left to agonize over the tragic fate of one of the most luminous heroes of the ancient Indian epic – the Mahabharata.

It’s been long I read something of Indian mythology. I have read and enjoyed previous books by author. I have also read other stories surrounding Mahabharata but not the one focusing on Abhimanyu who was killed in the battle at young age so I’ really excited to know this character more.

Thank you for reading! Let’s chat..,
