Uneventful week – Weekly Wrap Up

Hello readers! I hope you all are well and had great week. Last week was pretty normal, nothing bad happened and it felt good having uneventful week. It also gave me time to read even with 40 mins daily walks. It felt good to be out for fresh air. And it was also a week of adding many books to endless TBR. I’ll write post on that this week.

What I Read Last Week-

The Best Short Stories 2021: The O. Henry Prize Winners by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This is well-written contemporary/literary fiction stories with various themes. They are tragic, sad, depressing, and heartbreaking stories. I sure feel you need to be in particular mood for this. I dind’t enjoy all stories, some weren’t for me but some were truly masterpiece. I’m still thinking how to review this but I’m sure I’ll rate this 3 or 3.5.

The Kindred Spirits Supper Club by Amy E. Reichert

This is amazing, so lovely and adorable romance. Let’s see there is meet-cute, chance encounters, fake dating, friends-to-lovers, some drama, lovely moments, a good family dynamic, quirky characters, main character is introvert and well written mental health representation. What more does one need in book? If you are fan of romance genre and need a feel-good entertaining book for all season, don’t wait for my review, just get this.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival mega-corporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra — who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents — including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more — Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

I’m reading this with Toni. I was supposed to start this yesterday with her but I needed to write reviews of book I mentioned above. So I’m just starting this. Anyway, this sounds super amazing. I haven’t read a book in this format that has lots of documents, emails, and whatnot. It’s been long I read futuristic sci-fi and I hope to enjoy reading discussing this book with Toni.

Lemon Drop Falls by Heather Clark

Brave the sour to taste the sweet.

Morgan is devastated by her mother’s sudden death. Before, Mom’s amazing organizational skills kept the family on track, and her bowl of lemon drops was always on hand to make difficult conversations easy, turning life’s sour into sweet. After, there’s no one to help Morgan navigate her new role caring for her younger siblings, her worries about starting junior high, and her increasingly confusing friendships. All she can do is try to fulfill her mother’s final request: Keep them safe, Morgan. Be brave for them. Help them be happy.

When Dad insists on taking the family on their regular summer camping trip, and Morgan’s efforts to keep her promise to Mom seem doomed to fail, Morgan’s anxiety spirals into a panic attack, and Dad treats her like she’s impossibly broken. Unable to share her fears and needs with Dad, and desperate to prove she’s got the strength to hold the family together, Morgan sets off alone to hike a flooding canyon trail. But somewhere on that lonely and dangerous journey, Morgan will encounter the truth about the final words her mother left her, the power in finding her own voice, and the possibility of new beginnings.

One thing I want to do more this year is read middle grade books. I enjoy them more these days and when I saw these around last month I requested it on NetGalley. I think it will be light and fast paced and I can read it simultaneously with Illuminae.

Thank you for reading! Let’s chat…
