Wrap-Up

MONTHLY WRAP-UP : September 2020

Hello readers! This month had been busy and not everything turned out as I expected. I didn’t read or blog much as I was out looking for house almost half the week. We found the house we like but right now it’s under construction so we have to wait for almost 2 years and I’m not going to move into new house in new year as I have expected but it’s okay to wait I guess. I watched The Monkey King season 1 but was okay. October is birthday month so I hope it turns out better.

Books Read:

Mohini: The Enchantress by Anuja Chandramouli — [Review] ★★★★★ / / Fantasy, Indian Mythology / / Insightful and informative Indian mythology about myths and stories that changed with perspective; non-equality, brutality, injustice; dysfunctional celestial family- their flaws, mistakes and its consequences, and lessons they learn; representation of human nature and third gender; love and friendship. My most favourite stories were of Kavyamata and Tara. I enjoyed this feministic take on Indian Mythology with excellent writing and interesting characters and their refreshing, engaging stories.

The Quality of Mercy (A Lady Evelyn Mystery #5) by Malia Zaidi — [Review] ★★★★☆ / / Cozy Mystery / / Intriguing cozy mystery about dysfunctional family, secrets and scandals, fallibility of humans and their complex nature, friendship, and love. The twist and turns were brilliant. Captured 1920s London and culture aptly with fascinating characters and mysteries to solve.

Half Life by Lillian Clark — [Review] ★★★☆☆ / / Sci-fi, Contemporary / / It was about identity, individuality, how cloning affects a person, realising self-worth comes from within, there isn’t anything perfect, relationship and friendship. I enjoyed that scientific jargons, procedure of making clone in initial chapters. It wasn’t easy to like main character. Middle part of the book was a bit slow. Development and all exciting things happened too late in the book.

Accidentally in Love by Belinda Missen — [Review] ★★★★☆ / / Romcom, Chick-Lit / / heart-warming romcom about dream, life, struggle, friendship, family, love, and drama. I liked all side characters. Family dynamic was amazing. Romance was lovely. It was emotive romance with hate-to-love arc.

You May Kiss the Bridesmaid (First Comes Love #6) by Camilla Isley — [Review] ★★★★★ / / Romcom / / sweet and sizzling romcom about forgiveness, moving on in life leaving the past mistakes behind, overcoming the commitment phobia, friendship, family, and love. All characters were developed, realistic and fun to read. It was quick read with lovely characters and blush inducing romance, a total escape, pure entertainment and perfect and feel good romcom.

Eudora Honeysett is Quite Well, Thank You by Annie Lyons — [Review] ★★★★★ / / Women’s Fiction / / heart-warming women’s fiction that revolved around 85 years old Eudora and her unlikely friendship with Rose and Stanley. It was about multigenerational relationship, importance of a good death and living life fullest till it lasts, family, friendship, and letting go of past and guilt. Characters were realistic, developed and lovable. Topic of death was handled amazingly. I highly recommend this.

Bell Hammers by Lancelot Schaubert — [Review] ★★★☆☆ / / Historical Fiction / / It was heartfelt and humorous, about family, friendship, community, corruption, corporate exploitation, consequences of pranks, faith, guilt and redemption. All characters were flawed, realistic, and interesting. I liked how author showed various stages in Remmy’s life. Theme of corporate exploitation was well written. At around 15% story it started to drag, I almost lost interest. It was hard to follow conversations sometimes. it was same throughout the book, some chapters I enjoyed, were fun to read, while some were okay and wished the plot moved faster.

Spin the Dawn (The Blood of Stars #1) by Elizabeth Lim / / Fantasy / / This was the best book I read this month. After reading some slow or medium paced book I needed this fast paced, immersive, impressive fantasy filled with mysterious characters, magical world building and exciting adventure.

Best of the month:

Hi, I'm Yesha, an Indian book blogger. Avid and eclectic reader who loves to read with a cup of tea. Not born reader but I don't think I’m going to stop reading books in this life. “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

good wrap up, yesha, but two years waiting for construction? i’d be crazy by then. around here they throw stuff up in a few months…well, depending on weather, and i can tell you sometimes the weather is AWFUL! still, i’ve seen workers out on three story commercial structures in frigid wind and rain. i can’t imagine how they do it.

Thank you! this is 18 storey building and there will be more than one building. It’s different here than any other countries. If you have google high rise apartments or apartment township Mumbai or any big city in India you will get the India. This are b9ig projects and they take time.

We saw buildings and house on the adjacent plot which were all filled and there wasn’t any occupancy in those apartments. The same builder is building the mirror image of those apartments with same size and all. So we got the idea how the apartment will look like, all we need to do is wait for full 2.5 years. We search all city and we couldn’t find the one that was really good or new or was in our budget. So I guess better to wait. We are still discussing things but will finalise in a week because even though its under construction, people has started booking and it’s already 40% pack. So if we want our choice of location we need to hurry. And if we wait till construction is complete the prices will be bit higher than now and we will not get preferred location. It’s really crazy and we can’t think of anything else ever since we started house hunting.

Thank you, Stephen! The wait is longer, the construction will be over in the beginning of 2023 and we tried to search other ready to move houses but we didn’t get the feeling. my heart was set on the under-construction building we finalised. Guess we will book house now and save a bit more by the time we get possession.

Thank you! Eudora was lovely, I loved her speaking style like Rose. Can’t wait to read your review.

Bell Hammers was okay for me, I found it dragging and couldn’t get some chapter but if you’re familiar with Illinois, history, and dialect you might enjoy it.

Exactly we saw many sites both under constructions and ready to move in but only liked few. At the end we decided to wait a while, book the house and go for best quality construction.
You will like Spin The Dawn. There isn’t much info dump and world is prefect and you will love family dynamic and Maia’s tailoring skills.
