WEEKLY WRAP-UP #WEEKINREADING (23/3/’20)

Hello Readers! I hope you and your family are safe. My city, Hyderabad is locked down from today till 31st. I had my tickets booked on 31st since January. I was going home for cousin’s marriage. Now, I’m not sure what will happen, most probably both tickets and marriage will be cancelled. Husband is saying we should go if tickets are not cancelled and I’m saying we stay here. And then there is question of return tickets, we don’t know if we will get refund of return tickets if tickets on 31st got cancelled. I guess we have to wait and see what happens. And because we were planning to go we didn’t stock groceries and now all shops are closed! Good things I have books and blog.

What I read last week-

Cynetic Wolf (Wolfish #1) by Matt Ward

I love that cover. Isn’t it amazing? Alas, I can’t say the same with book. overall, it was good read, something different but I wish there was a bit more description both in writing and world building. I will post review on 26th.

A Day at the Zoo by Cassie Roberts

What I’ll read next-

Avocado Bliss by Candace Robinson, Gerardo Delgadillo

Dacre Vinson has spent the majority of his life in quite the predicament—even the surf and his books can’t erase his Type 1 diabetes. But when Dacre’s family moves to a new Mexican town, an eccentric girl obsessed with trees offers him a job on the spot, leading to what could be the perfect distraction from his problems.

Salbatora Tames has one true love, her avocado farm. Her family constantly nudges her to be more social, but Sal much prefers the dirt, the sun, and the solitude. Besides, trees listen better than people do.

For Sal and Dacre, their job won’t stay easy breezy for long, not when an avocado delivery to Palenque, Mexico pops up on their radar. Together, they embark on a road trip across the jungle, where they form a tighter bond. However, as obstacles arise, their new-found troubles may lead to more woes than bliss.

I planned to read this last week but it took me longer to finish In the Shadow of Hanging Tree and then Cynetic Wolf. But this look short and I hope to finish it in a day or two. I plan to review it on 27th on its publication day.

Beyond The Moon by Catherine Taylor

Outlander meets Birdsong is this haunting debut timeslip novel, where a strange twist of fate connects a British soldier fighting in the First World War and a young woman living in modern-day England a century later.

*Shortlisted for the Eharmony/Orion Write Your Own Love Story Prize 2018/19

In 1916 1st Lieutenant Robert Lovett is a patient at Coldbrook Hall military hospital in Sussex, England. A gifted artist, he’s been wounded fighting in the Great War. Shell shocked and suffering from hysterical blindness he can no longer see his own face, let alone paint, and life seems increasingly hopeless.

A century later in 2017, medical student Louisa Casson has just lost her beloved grandmother – her only family. Heartbroken, she drowns her sorrows in alcohol on the South Downs cliffs – only to fall accidentally part-way down. Doctors fear she may have attempted suicide, and Louisa finds herself involuntarily admitted to Coldbrook Hall – now a psychiatric hospital, an unfriendly and chaotic place.

Then one day, while secretly exploring the old Victorian hospital’s ruined, abandoned wing, Louisa hears a voice calling for help, and stumbles across a dark, old-fashioned hospital room. Inside, lying on the floor, is a mysterious, sightless young man, who tells her he was hurt at the Battle of the Somme, a WW1 battle a century ago. And that his name is Lieutenant Robert Lovett…

Two people, two battles: one against the invading Germans on the battlefields of 1916 France, the other against a substandard, uncaring mental health facility in modern-day England. Two journeys begun a century apart, but somehow destined to coincide – and become one desperate struggle to be together.

And if possible I will read this by weekend so I don’t have to carry it with me if my ticket didn’t cancel. It’s 494 pages long and will be heavy to carry along with all luggage and my daughter.

Let’s discuss!

HAPPY READING!!
