OVER A SPAN OF TEN YEARS, HE KILLED FORTY PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEN VANISHED WITHOUT A TRACE. AFTER FIVE YEARS OF SILENCE, HE IS BACK AGAIN, SEEKING HIS NEXT VICTIM. ONLY ONE MAN CAN STOP HIM – PROFESSOR BLACK.

Maher was found unconscious in the middle of the highway and later, in the hospital, she revealed that she had escaped from a killer’s house. All the details and patterns matched the serial killer ‘Kansa,’ who had disappeared five years ago after murdering forty pregnant women.

ACP Saargi Desai was assigned to the case. She appealed to her department to bring back Professor Black to help her catch the killer. The Professor, who had a haunting past that had kept him away from the world of crime and investigation for several years, was not willing to take on this case. But the ACP managed to convince him to get on board just for this one last time. Soon after agreeing to help, the Professor realized that for the first time in his life, he had met his match. As he dug deeper into the case, everything got dirtier, the stakes went higher, and nothing was what it seemed.

This was first book in Killer trilogy, ‘whodunit’ murder mystery, full of thrill and suspense with perfect pace and great characters.

If you’re from India, you might know a mythical character, uncle of Shree Krishna ‘Kansa’ in Shree Krishna tales who was a villain famous for killing new born children of his own sister. The book is titled after that character as the serial killer of the book was faceless and nameless who was killing pregnant women and their children after birth and so media named killer ‘Kansa’.

In the span of 10 years this psycho has kidnapped 40 pregnant women, tortured them, taken their children and left them in garbage after killing innocent women. Women are dying and children are missing. Now you’re having a picture how dangerous this psychopath is and how important it is for government of nation to catch this serial killer.

ACP Saargi knows that only one person can catch this killer, a psycho like him, gold medalist in criminology, Professor Black.

Characters_edited

Professor Black– This dude was alcoholic, druggist and kept escort girl’s number on speed dial, weird right? But had a brilliant mind. He was gold medalist in criminology and had solved many cases that no force in government could solve, in short he was last and very certain hope in any case. Never following rules, doing everything in his own terms with only goal of solving case, rude and high-tempered, sensitive and kind for victims and his loved ones. He was brilliant throughout the book. His style of work and his instinct was admirable.

ACP Saargi– This was second most admirable character in the book. She was fierce, feisty, strong, beautiful, ethical, and dedicated to her work who doesn’t care for gossips about her, a kind of female character that I always love.

Kansa– This villain was obviously loathsome but definitely was smart. For 10 years he could carry on his killing without living a trace of evidence was brilliant. This villain was so scary that you won’t go to clinic or any other place alone.

Well-developed, strong characters and all having their life stories. Perfect characterization.

What I liked_edited

Wow beginning of the book! A couple returning from wedding get into accident and finds most important person of the book, victim who managed to escape Kansa, alive! Without this victim I don’t think professor could have find out Kansa that easily. She had remarkable memory, gift of art and so strong will. From the very start book was very tense, gripping and made me think who was the killer and why he was committing such hideous crime.

Every crime give birth to one of the two things: terror or pain. But this was different from others.”

The book was third person narrative switching from perspective of Professor and Saargi. Easy language and easy to follow made it even faster read. I loved the detailed lifestyle and life story of Professor and Saargi. What made professor ‘Professor Black’, what was the reason behind his aggressive nature and his journey to a successful and famous criminologist of nation, what inspired Saargi to become ACP and her life goal and most importantly what makes these two different from the system.

I loved the growing feelings between Professor and Saargi. That little romance and beautiful words between them, even though just for little time period, was breather in the book full of blood, misery, and craziness of killer.

We are all killers, Professor. Some people kill their own dream, their children’s future, someone’s love, parent’s expectations, their wife’s happiness, other people’s opportunity, and simple smiles. They take away everting and then say ‘sorry’ in return and are chicken shit to accept that they’re doing anything wrong.

One after another Professor unfolded the mystery of murders. The action and chase from both the sides during that period was exciting and thrilling. No dull moments. There was even the entry of surprising characters that helped professor in the case and also were death warrant of killer. All chapter were written with vivid description that ended with cliffhanger.

Always remember one thing – in business of crime and justice, a lot depends on sheer gut instinct. You have to make choices in matter of seconds and you have to make the right ones…. We are warriors and we can’t expect world to be so smooth, easy and bright.

The family history of suspect was sad and touchy. After reading that part I did some guesswork, I could feel that something went wrong here, something was missing in the story told about suspect and I was right for that feeling but what I guessed as for who might be a killer, I was totally wrong at the end.  Author created wonderful suspense in the book. Until climax I couldn’t find out the main reason behind all massacre and who was the killer. All was revealed only in last three chapters which were very interesting.

I loved the end of the book. The twist in the end and in last chapter was unpredictable. There was the hint of the next mystery of second book of the series that most surprising.

This was my first book by this author and I wish to read more from this author and definitely I’m going to finish this series.

why not 5 stars_edited

I had just one concern. The motive and reason behind killing was perfectly written and explained but I was still wondering how killer executed everything and why treating victims like animal and misbehaving with when at the end he was going to get what he wanted and kill them all, and after knowing who was killer, I wonder who was speaking to victims while keeping them in captivity! I wanted Killer’s perspective for this. It would have made the book even more exciting.
