Author Interview: Twinepathy (IDIA #1) by C.B. Cook

templet

Today I’m doing author interview with C.B. Cook, author of Twinepathy first book of the series IDIA.

Read my review on the book HERE.

So, here if more about book and author.

About Author

I’m a writer, college student, and graphic design major. Along with that, I am a huge author c b cook-200x200movie fan, especially of the movies in the Marvel universe. I’m also a homeschool graduate and, most importantly, a Christian.

Q & A:

Q. When and why did you begin writing?

I can’t really remember when I started writing. The oldest story that I have that I remember is from when I was in 3rd grade. I started writing seriously because I wanted to write a story for my mom for Christmas. I just kept going after that!

Q. Tell readers about your book.

Twinepathy is a superhero novel about twins with a telepathic connection who stumble across a memory thief and a mysterious superhero organization. It’s a mystery sci-fi superhero novel, the first in the IDIA series. It was a lot of fun to write!

Q. How did you come up with the idea for your book?

I’ve always loved writing about twins, and I began to get into Marvel movies and superheroes about a year before I had the idea for Twinepathy. Somewhere along the line, I put the two together, and I just started writing! Everything else came along the way.

Q. What sort of research did you do to write this book?

I didn’t do much formal research for this book (although I still think that reading or watching about superheroes counts as research). The main research I did was related to some online searching that Albany does during the story. I actually searched some of the names she did, just to see how the results came up.

Q. What book(s) have most influenced your life?

For fiction, I’d have to say a few series: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Cooper Kids, and my all-time favorite, The Lord of the Rings. I grew up with Narnia and the Cooper Kids, which introduced me to fantasy and adventure stories. My dad read The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia to me when I was little, although I didn’t remember anything from LOTR when I read it on my own a few years ago. I fell in love with the trilogy, and I have to say that it’s definitely influenced my writing and my life.

Q. What have you written? (Books, novellas, short stories, poems, blogs, awards or anything of interest.)

I’ve written and published one novella, Paralyzed Dreams, and one

novel, Twinepathy, the first book in the IDIA series. I just recently finished the second IDIA book, Lightporter. I’ve been posting on my blog, The World of the Writer, for about two years now, and just recently I wrote a few guest posts for the Indie Author E-Con, where Twinepathy won two awards: the Best Set of Clues and the Best Trip to Space!

Q. Where can readers buy/see them? (Include relevant link(s))

Both Twinepathy and Paralyzed Dreams can be found in e-book format on Amazon, and Twinepathy is also available in paperback format on Amazon, Barnes & Noble’s website, and quite a few other online bookstores. Lightporter isn’t available yet, but it is on Goodreads, where you can find all of my books.

Q. What draws you to this particular genre? Do you think writing will stay in specific genre?

My main genre is superhero, and it’s definitely the superpowers and the characters that draw me to it. How does having a superpower affect someone’s personality? How has it influenced their life? I’ve really enjoyed exploring that throughout the stories I’ve written. I’ve had quite a few more ideas in the genre, so I’ll probably stay in it for a while.

Q. What was your favorite chapter (or part) of writing this book and why?

Probably my favorite part of writing Twinepathy was the characters. A specific section is close to the beginning, when we meet Blaze for the first time. That was probably one of the most fun scenes I’ve ever written. I also really enjoyed writing Anvil’s introduction, too.

Q. What was the hardest part of writing the book? Was there anything that you deleted or altered?

The hardest part was definitely the editing. I’ve never been a fan of editing, and I probably never will. For the actual writing, I struggled somewhat with the villain aspect of the story. I didn’t even decide who the villain was until halfway through the book, so that was hard to work around. The only huge part that I changed was the ending—I actually wrote a completely different ending than I had originally planned. But the second ending turned out much better.

Q. Is there a message in your book that you hope readers will grasp?

I didn’t have a specific message in mind when I was writing Twinepathy. My main goal was to write a clean, fun book that could be enjoyed by both seasoned YA readers and newcomers. It’s very different from other YA books, because it’s light-hearted and very clean, which was my goal. A book doesn’t have to have cursing or heavy romance or gore in it to be enjoyable!

Q. Do you read book reviews? How do you deal with good or bad ones?

I do read every book review that I see. If it’s posted on Goodreads or Amazon, or if the reviewer tells me about it, I definitely read it! The really good reviews (especially the ones filled with fangirling) always make my day, and I mentally bookmark them to read whenever I’m not feeling motivated or I’m trying to brainstorm. They’re a good indicator of what readers like. Bad ones are harder, of course, and I always try to think about them in terms of the other reviews I’ve gotten. Have others said the same negative things? If so, that’s something I can keep in mind for future books. I also have to remember that a review is a reviewer’s opinion. Every person reads a story differently!

Q. What are your future project(s)? What’s it about? (*if relevant)

As I mentioned earlier, I just finished writing Lightporter, the sequel to Twinepathy, and I’m working on editing it at the moment. I also started a new writing project for the Rooglewood Press Snow White contest. The only thing I can say about that is that it’s a superhero retelling of Snow White, and I’m super excited about it!

Q. If your novel made into movie which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead characters?

I’ve tried thinking about this, but it’s really hard to come up with good actors or

Lilly Aspell

actresses. Albany and Brooklyn could either be played by one actress or actual twins, so that leaves it pretty open. The only person that I’ve actually found a really good person for is Maddie, thanks to Wonder Woman. I think Lilly Aspell (who plays young Diana) would make an awesome Maddie! Other than that, I don’t really have any ideas.

Q. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Write a lot! The more you write, the better your writing will get. Your first project might never get published, but that’s okay! My first story will probably never see the light of day. You’ll get better the more you do it, just like any other activity. Also, seek feedback from more experienced people and write what you want to read.

Q. What is your favorite motivational phrase?

“Write the books that you want to read! If you don’t love it, why should your readers?”

Q. Currently reading

So many! Writing for the Soul by Jerry B. Jenkins and The Sound of Diamonds by Rachelle Rea are the two main ones.

Q. Favorite foods / Colors/ Music/ TV show/ Film

Food: My mom’s homemade food (especially chicken and rice) and Taco Bell quesadillas

Color: Blue

Music: Anything TobyMac or For King And Country

TV Show: Miraculous Ladybug, The Flash, and American Ninja Warrior

Film: Anything Marvel, Wonder Woman, and Mom’s Night Out

Q. Whom you will recommend your book?

I recommend the IDIA series for Marvel/superhero fans, teenagers who love to fangirl (or fanboy), and anyone looking for a clean, light-hearted adventure!

Q. Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

Only one more thing! I’d love for fans of IDIA to join the IDIA group board on Pinterest! We’ve got quite a few people on there, and you can see some quotes and fun IDIA-related things on the board, and you can add your own. You can check it out HERE
